Movie Reviews
The blogs on this site are in categories and the pages are either independent, with no relation to the blogs, or they are an introduction to a category.
When I was a small child I used to go to the picture theatre up the road with my two sisters every Saturday. It cost a shilling each and for that small sum I was given the pleasure of film for life. I’m not a film buff but when I tried writing reviews I found I had something to say. Maybe you’ll agree and perhaps you won’t. I’ll keep writing anyway. I hate the constantly cynical voice of many movie critics but I can’t whitewash my words if I don’t like something. Happily I respond positively to many movies and don’t have to tell you not to watch them. It would only be my experience anyway. You will see them and respond to them your way. Maybe what I write here will lead you to a pleasant experience watching something you missed. I’ll be happy if that happens.
I like movies that make me think and ones that let me experience another culture so you will find some European and other non-Hollywood classics appearing here occasionally. Most U.S. films seem to me to be no-brainers, with some notable exceptions. There is a time for everything and a good fun no-brainer is sometimes just what I need. The reviews for those are the shortest.
By the way, I hate horror and won’t watch it. The Freudian cathartic view doesn’t wash with me. This world is full of horror as you will see if you examine my ‘A thousand Arms’ page and category. I heard enough of it when I worked as a Counsellor and I don’t need to experience fear. Why would I want that? There is never a time when that’s what I need. The suspense and pathology/crime scene genres do get me in at times so I’m not totally consistent but you won’t see any horror movies here. I don’t want to take that stuff into me.
