I’m sad and not a little annoyed that my friend has lost her battle to keep her restaurant. She has put up a good fight but tells me there is little hope now. There is no question now that those who are evicting her are doing so because of some personal grudge and not through reasons that have anything to do with their official role. When asked for reasons none of their statements held up. Some so-called reasons were so flimsy even a child could have challenged them. The final reason is perhaps the weakest of all but the particular person in the particular branch of the Chinese government involved is unchallengeable, it seems. My friend has been very thorough in exploring every possible avenue to keep her dream alive. Now she is left with disillusionment and when the day finally arrives when the doors of her establishment close to her customers and friends I am sure she will weep for the hurt her homeland has given her, and soon after she will return to the United States and take up her life there again. (Hey! You thought the Big Apple was tough? Try Wuhan) I hope she writes the book and gives interviews about what she has gone through. Perhaps at least then she can recover some of her financial losses. She is an excellent human being and I saw her helping less fortunate people many times. China will lose one of its treasures through this act of a self-serving beaurocratic bully.
